PSA Excitement and Thank Yous!

You’ve probably already checked out our first two PSA commercials, produced by Community-Minded Television; now we’re gearing up to make the next one and we need your help! If you’re a teen in Spokane who wants to learn about editing, lighting, makeup, or other aspects of video production, join us Thursday May 3rd for a free training!

We also owe a HUGE thank you to the entire staff and student body of The Community School. They have agreed to use their entire building as our set for the PSA, and many of their students will be starring and taking part in the production! Principal Cindy McMahon and the whole crew at The Community School are excellent partners…thanks for letting us take over the school!

Health-ing homeless teens with a little help from our friends!

In partnership with Crosswalk, Volunteers of America’s teen shelter, Healthy Teens Project will be distributing 25 bags of hygiene items, information about health coverage, and some sweet sunglasses to homeless teens in Spokane.  In addition to our normal swag in these bags, some great organizations stepped up to make them even better!

Project Beauty Share donates hygiene items specifically for young women. Their mission? “to collect cosmetics and beauty products and distribute them through local agencies to women of all ages whose circumstances do not allow them to afford these products.”

Cozy Bear Natural Products LLC is a local company from Chewelah, WA. They generously donated all-natural, organic lip balm and foot powder for our bags.

Northern Quest Casino is also donating various hygiene items to help out homeless teens in Spokane.

Thanks to these great partners for making this happen!

Think Before You Tan

Check out this great article from WebMD about the rise of melanoma risk for people under 40. It has some great summer tips including the ones below, just in time for planning to head to the beach!

“…Ways to protect your skin and reduce the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers include:

  • Stay out of the sun during peak hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Wear protective clothing with a tight weave, including a hat with a brim to shade your ears and neck, a shirt with sleeves to cover your arms, and pants.
  • Use a sunscreen every day with an SPF of at least 30. Choose a sunscreen that protects against both types of ultraviolet radiation, UVA and UVB.
  • Examine yourself regularly for changes on your skin, such as new moles or changes to old moles, and talk to your doctor about having a skin exam done by a health care professional.”
